"Every Nook and Cranny" - Dance House Children version

Postby david » Tue Dec 20, 2011 7:58 pm

Ronnie put out "The Children's Symphony" sometime way back in the Dance House Children days. I really don't know much about it, and I'm not sure if it was supposed to be another DHC release or if it was a side project. Anyway, I was listening to the songs the other day when it struck me that I was listening to "Every Nook and Cranny". This version was called "White Horses" and was quite a lot faster (and a bit more driving). I wanted to see how they compared, so I threw the old version and new version together in a video and tried my best to match up the tempos and pitch. I had to speed up "Every Nook and Cranny" a lot, but you can still get the picture:

Somebody asked about getting the tracks for "The Children's Symphony". There are just two. I suspect that Ronnie wouldn't care, but I think it's only fair to ask first.

If you could ask him that would slay so hard! I just hope he's not too embarrassed of it. He doesn't give himself enough credit!!

Wow - that "White Horses" demo is a really good vocal performance for Ronnie. This must have been recorded in 1989, 1990?

I'd really like to hear the original too. You know, most people when they're really young and making music try TOO hard to make their band name/album name sound "cool" or "edgy". But not our Ronnie... I love him.

So let me get this straight...

He all but completely forgets about his loyal fan base for over a year, not once updating his site or answering a single question from anybody, effectively disappearing without any explanation or any hint to what the future might hold for Joy Electric. When he returns he says, and I quote:

You know, it’s so interesting, because there’s been so many releases out at such a steady pace over the years that if a year and a half goes by without something new, some people think that something has gone terribly wrong!

An understatement, considering that, prior to that year and a half absence, he always let us know what lie on the horizon as far as personal projects go whereas he spent all of 2010 making huge changes in nearly every area in his life while his supporters were in the dark. Said Fantasy? What's that? I didn't hear about it from Ronnie. Wait, he's a worship leader now? AND co-host of a popular Christian radio show? You don't say!

So he returns, in July 2011, to let us know that all is well and maybe Joy Electric is dying and maybe it isn't. And there's a new album on the way, slated for release in Fall 2011! Where is it, you ask, seeing as how we are in Winter of 2011? Just head over to Ronnie's blog that he never bothered telling JE fans about for tons of non-answers! Or how about ronniemartin.org? Saidfantasy.com? Oh heck, you can still e-mail him at ronnie@joyelectric.com, right? I mean, he still answers that....right?

I'm as big a fan of Ronnie Martin as anybody. There was a time in my life when I listened to almost nothing but JE everyday, even religiously so. But the few new posts I see at this forum now and again are all optimistic, and no one seems to think like I do that Ronnie more or less doesn't give a crap about this site or these forums anymore.

So go on and release those tracks, please. There's no one to offend as long as Ronnie Martin no longer cares to make his presence known here from time to time.

I think he is kinda right because a year and half he could say to his fans i am going to take a break from JE and making music and he didn't now he's saying that maybe this album could be one of the last ones because he don't want to say what really happenin. I have him as friend in Facebook and he don't say nothing at all about JE is like is not part of his life anymore. I read this blog on tumblr same there he contract with T&N expired like we see so this album is a mystery.

MattB and elisamuelf, you two are way out of line. You sound like whiny petulant children. Ronnie has a personal and work life outside of Joy Electric, he always has. It just so happens that his personal and work life outside of Joy Electric seems to be taking precedence over Joy E and Said Fantasy right now. Let the man live his life and quit bitching about how he hasn't kept you up to date on his every waking move.

Furthermore, Matt, if you had been paying attention to this very board you would have known all about the things you claim Ronnie kept hidden from everyone. It's not Ronnie's fault you didn't pay attention. Elisa, it's his PERSONAL facebook page not Joy Electric's. I'm not quite sure why you expect him to talk about Joy Electric all the time on there. I'm also not sure he wanted it publicly known he has a facebook page. Now, for the both of you, the man put out a full length a year, and sometimes an ep or two as well, for about 17 years. Don't you think Ronnie deserves a break, some time to rest?

The simple fact is you two are just being greedy and are way out of line. I hoped someone would have called you out sooner, but since they didn't I am.

All that aside I hope Ronnie is cool with posting these tracks. I'm sure they are amazing.

Love the tease clips! I would love to have these songs as FLACs or WAVs. It's not like anyone is going to make money from selling these songs as MP3s... :)

Music is serious business.

I remember that hurt feeling I used to get whenever I felt Ronnie wasn't paying his fan base enough attention. It comes from the mentality that he owes us something because we like his music and pay him money for it. The reality, of course, is we owe him something for all the beautiful music he's given us over the years, at the very least we owe him the time he needs to finish whatever it is he's doing, especially in a period of his life where he's clearly focused on other things. Sure, it's tempting to feel he's being discourteous or he's "abandoned" us, but where is it written a musician has to be in constant contact with his fanbase through the internet? Some never give any news ever. There's a lot of very fine music out there being made all the time, find some other band to harp on for awhile.

Oh, and if it's still in question, I am absolutely 100% certain Ronnie wouldn't care in the slightest if someone posted the original version of Every Nook and Cranny (so please do).

A little bit of reason:
Sure, throwing a fit on the JE forum is a little over-the-top, but scolding complete strangers like they are your children is just as "out of line".
I get frustrated everyday I check the site and its the same thing: Fall 2011: Dwarf Mountain Alphabet. The new album. Blah blah.
Of course Ronnie owes nobody anything. He can do whatever he wants.
It's just that when an artist posts that something new will be out by a certain time and it isn't, it's dissapointing to a loyal fan. Publishing music is a tedious process if you want to do it right, especially if you are on your own without a label. Hey, who knows? He might be in talks with a new label for all we know.
Just gotta be patient.
In all fairness, how long does it really take to type "hey guys, it's taking a bit longer than I thought." 2 months? I don't know.
Ronnie hasn't abandoned anyone. I'm sure he's just busy.
Anyway, just my opinion. :)

I wasn't trying to be out of line. I'm one of the biggest Joy E fans in the world. I just really like Ronnie as a person from all the times I've gotten to talk to him at shows and felt what was said was unfair and rude to him. I was trying to be the voice of reason, but maybe I should have taken a different tone.

I knew someone was going to get offended, and rush to defend Ronnie Martin from my selfish, childish voice of unreasonableness, but I didn't think it would be this hilariously over-the-top. :)

Let's break this down, shall we?

MattB and elisamuelf, you two are way out of line. You sound like whiny petulant children.

No, out of line is insulting Ronnie Martin or making unreasonable demands of him. Expecting him to give his fans an update every now and then--he doesn't even have to do it himself, because for a matter of fact he knows plenty of people who can do it for him--or at least updating everyone on the status of an album that wasn't released at the time the front page still clearly says it is supposed to be released is neither insulting to the man nor is it unreasonable.

Ronnie has a personal and work life outside of Joy Electric, he always has.

Yes. Among other things, he has driven trucks for a living outside of JE.

Let the man live his life and quit bitching about how he hasn't kept you up to date on his every waking move.

Do I have to pull quotes out of my original post just to make you understand how ridiculous that sounds?
And I'M being bitchy? Thank goodness Ronnie has you to come to rescue any time someone makes ONE POST mentioning his infrequent updates.

Furthermore, Matt, if you had been paying attention to this very board you would have known all about the things you claim Ronnie kept hidden from everyone. It's not Ronnie's fault you didn't pay attention.

So far I've only mused on your inordinately indignant response to my little mini-rant, but this is where I call you out your bullshit, lfh.

I have been a Joy Electric fan since the summer of 2000. I have lurked the official Joy Electric since at least late 2001, long before it was called the "jecommunity".

Nothing announced on this board has ever escaped my attention.

It's one thing to attack someone, calling them a petulant, greedy child because you disagree with what they wrote. It's quite another when you do so and your argument has holes the size of Texas in it!
The hole: If I had not been paying attention to this board, I would not have known about Ronnie's tumblr blog in the first place. You say that it's my fault for not paying attention, as if Ronnie announced the tumblr blog here in the first place. But here's the funny part---he didn't! Said Fantasy was not OFFICIALLY announced at joyelectric.com. The tumblr blog was not OFFICIALLY announced at joyelectric.com. The fact that he may have already left T&N has not been OFFICIALLY announced at joyelectric.com. All of these things have been reported here by third parties, never by Ronnie Martin himself.

And FYI, I never said Ronnie owed anyone anything. No merchant owes his customer anything after the products have already been sold. But that doesn't mean that as a citizen of the Land of Free Speech, I can't be vocally unhappy about it! And you wrote such a diatribe against what I wrote, but where's the substance in your words? If we just cut through all the BS, are you really saying that I have no right to be unhappy with Ronnie Martin for the way he's distanced himself from his fanbase for the last year and a half? If so, then I'm not the one being petty, you are.

Fact: Ronnie has distanced himself from his fanbase.

Also fact: I don't like it. I don't like how every new bit of Ronnie Mart music news comes from an unofficial source, sometimes weeks or months after the fact, and I hate that when a new JE album was announced and didn't come out on time, there's no one around to explain why.

Facty fact: Ronnie Martin is either some sort of god to you, or you just happened to really jump the gun with nearly every line of your unnecessarily angry response. I'm leaning towards the latter.

The simple fact is you two are just being greedy and are way out of line. I hoped someone would have called you out sooner, but since they didn't I am.

It was a tough job, but someone had to do it!

I've been listening to Joy Electric since I was a teenager. I'm 27 now, nearly 28. I've been reading these forums for a long time, and I've been on the web longer than Google, and I've seen a lot of things.
So please take my word for it when I tell you that this righteous indignation over non-inflammatory remarks is very unbecoming of you. I'm not a greedy, petulant child; I'm a fan of Ronnie Martin's music, just like you. Our only difference is, while I respect the man as immensely as you do, I don't think that means I should keep my mouth shut up and never, ever, ever say anything negative about anything he does. Because that would be silly.
