Who else had a blast at A9?

Postby lcburgundy » Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:30 pm

I know I did. :D

Everyone was great. Loved the bands I had never looked up before - Reagan Eighties and Foxglove Hunt. I had not heard Bubble Boy in many years and it was great to see iSatellite in concert. My friend and I had to leave early because we had to get up early today so we missed most of Echoing Green.

Joy E was great of course - played all three vocal songs from Starcadia (Dance to Moroder, Matterhorn, Carousel of Progress), which was pure fanboy pandering I'm pretty sure  . The three-piece set Ronnie had (him on vocals, one of the Reagan Eighties guys on synth, and foxglove hunt on drums) worked the best that I had ever heard him before. Jon Sonnenberg actually put on his old silver HoW suit for his last song (he played something from You Are Obsolete but now I forget what song it was.) CTRW, which I have been waiting for years to see live, was also great. Andy had a lot of new material, and I was also to get all of Silence of the Sea recorded on video and most of Leaves of Grass until the camera I had died . If anyone who was there would be willing to share their recordings of CTRW and/or Joy E, I would really, really appreciate it.

This is my 2nd Autobahn and I've yet to be disappointed. I had an awesome time. Went specifically to see I-Satellite, Joy Electric and The Foxglove Hunt. I also found Travelogue to be impressive as always. What more could I ask for? Well, it would've been nice if the guy at the soundboard had known what he was doing. The sound was really bad at times.

I like the new venue at Joe's Java. I think it actually had air conditioning this time.

good old point and shoot quality...but it actually does a decent job...and has seen many venues in varying degrees of smuggling.

A joyous occasion, as always.

Joe's looks really great, and I appreciated that isn't wasn't as hot or overwhelmingly smoke-machine-y as in previous years. ;) The bands were enjoyable, the company was a blast. Great to see old friends (I missed the Grahams!). I took lots of pictures and am working on sorting through them... I'll post them soon.

lcburgundy, I agree that it was fun to hear Bubble Boy (blast from the past). The Joy E set was really nice...it seemed like Ronnie was enjoying himself, and the addition of a very enthusiastic synth player never hurts. Rob added some unique stuff on the drums. Travelogue was so cool, as always... amazing outfits and the husband/wife combo is unbeatable. Cut the Red Wire was a lot of fun as well.

Autobahn is so charming. One of my favorite events of the year for sure.

I also think CTRW distributed his new EPs with a small error - I'm pretty sure the version of 'draw me near' on the EP is meant for a backing track for a live performance, because it almost entirely lacks the vocal track that was on the original myspace version.

So hopefully he fixes that and I have something quite rare. :P

As for the sound issues at Joe's Java, they weren't that bad - especially for the first event in a building they had just finished that morning.

I do think it was pretty bad. However, I had no ideal the building was only completed that day. That leaves a lot more room for understanding.

Very good year of Autobahn and thank God I wasn't risking my life to attend this time haha! Ohio winters are strange. Growing up and dealing with real winters in northwestern PA makes one like me think it can't possibly be bad in the Cincinnati area but couple a large amount of snow with road crews that really don't know how to deal with it makes a messy trip. Again, Thank God that didn't happen again.

I filmed quite a bit of Autobahn and it will come to youtube soon. http://youtube.com/TigerRAWk

I actually prefer Ronnie playing the synths but the show was fun regardless. There wasn't a group this year that I didn't at least like to some degree. Of course certain groups I like more than others...Travelogue, Cut The Red Wire, Joy Electric, & The Foxglove Hunt. Reagan Eighties were good to add to new artists I will be paying attention to. This was a first that I experienced iSatellite. It was good. The Echoing Green was good too.

Got home nice and late after some good conversations with folks after the event. Was dead tired the last 2 days at work! haha

Embarrassing!!!

I was in such a rush to get this new Ep out before Autobahn I forgot to give it a listen before selling it at the show. I was extremely embarrassed to find out yesterday that I was missing the vocal tracks on that song. I accidentally burned my live/concert tracks version of the song rather than the full mix....

Anyway. to remedy that, you can go to www.plastiqmusiq.com/ctrw/drawmenear.mp3 and listen to or download the song

Sorry for the mistake.

Okay, I know this is a little late, but my husband, unborn child, and I all had a great time. It was cool to see Joanna and Ezra again, and to meet new Joy E friends! It was super to see Ronnie after 2 years, and to finally dance to some live Joy E music again! I enjoyed all the different bands. I was surprised at how much Echoing Green rocked, considering the music of their older CDs were pretty mellow. They were my second favorite of the show. And I loved how all the coffee drinks were $2! They made Baby dance more. :)

Maybe next year, Rouge...!
