Freedom of CD format

Hi Ronnie,

Do you find it more beneficial to be able to record for the CD format which places less time constraints on the music?

Or, considering the way you like to place restrictions on your songcrafting anyway, do you think trying to write songs that would divide well between sides of the record would actually be a benefit to you?

I think it goes either way sometimes... I feel some albums work very well having two (or more) logical sections... however there are a number of other equally good albums I don't think would have worked very well on the vinyl format, just on the basis that they would have to be awkwardly divided up because of the format's physical characteristics.

You know, my recording career began when CD's were already the general format, so I never had the opportunity to record specifically for vinyl. I think there's pluses and minuses for both formats, but I've never really placed any importance on the length of an album. Still, I've always divided my recordings up by side a/side b, but that's because my first few albums were still being manufactured on cassette. I think the time restraints of vinyl would suit me well.....
