Every Song: The Cobbler

Postby NathanJN » Fri Mar 02, 2012 12:45 pm

"The Cobbler" is the first song on the Old Wives Tales album.

Here's some possible topics for discussion:
1. Favorite Line
2. Least Favorite Line
3. Musical Quality
4. Images the Song Brings to Mind
5. Overall Rating (Using the entire body of JE music as a means of comparison . . . not just the album the song appears on.)
6. Compare it to the mix on the "Land of Misfits" EP.

The lyrics for this, and other songs on the album can be found here:

There's a video featuring "The Cobbler" (original) song transposed over the video from "Burgundy Years" here:

Alright! I love Old Wives Tales! This song is great, beginning to end. The music, lyrics, and vocals are all great.
Total escapism. Love it!

Heh. Yes!

I think I prefer the remix on the "Land of Misfits" CD, but this one is good too.

I recall I had a difficult time getting my hands on this particular EP . . . this was back before MP3s and I had become a fan of JE around the time of the "Robot Rock" album. I found it was rather easy to order all the older albums from online sources . . . but this CD was unavailable for the longest time.

I finally found it in a little mom and pop shop on clearance!

This is one of those songs, like "Sugar Rush", that I loved when I was still new to JE. Since then... well... it's not a favorite of mine. A little too repetitive. I know most of JE is pretty repetitive in pretty much the same way, so if you asked me to place my finger on why this one bugs me, I couldn't tell you. The texture might just be too simple, and the fact that I love the rest of the EP so much that I'm always inclined to skip it.
