Every Song: Old Castle Madrigal

The second song on the We Are the Music Makers album is "Old Castle Madrigal".

Here's some possible topics for discussion:
1. Favorite Line
2. Least Favorite Line
3. Musical Quality
4. Images the Song Brings to Mind
5. Overall Rating (Using the entire body of JE music as a means of comparison . . . not just the album the song appears on.)

The Lyrics for this, and other songs on the album can be found here:

I like this song in a 3.5/5 stars way, but it's not something that I would ever really be my "go-to" song. It fits well within the medieval theme of the album . . . but unlike a few other songs on WATMM (like "Burgundy Year") I've never found myself saying, "I need to listen to 'Old Castle Madrigal!'"

There's some great images in the song and a great beat . . . it just never lept out at me.

Consequently . . . I'm not sure what the title refers to, but here's the Webster definition of "Madrigal:

1: a medieval short lyrical poem in a strict poetic form

2:
a : a complex polyphonic unaccompanied vocal piece on a secular text developed especially in the 16th and 17th centuries
b : part-song;

Perhaps it means the castle is named Madrigal, or it's a madrigal from an old castle. Or, most likely, it doesnt mean anything and Ronnie just liked the sound of it as he has said of other song titles.

I love this song too! I always loved the line "Henceforth doth divinity" for some reason. This song was where I got the Madrigal part of my internet name (the "Dr. Madrigal" came when "Madrigal" was already taken on something). It was my all-time favorite JE song for a long time. I still love the main instrumental melody.

Great to know the origins of your name! I'm going to need to go back and reconsider my opinions of this song!
