why i am grateful for joy electric

I have started as a freshman studying composition at the University of the Arts in Philly. I've been hearing more and more student composition by people my age, and I've come to the realization that most of what I've accomplished musically I owe to Joy Electric. I think Ronnie taught me songwriting. Melody-writing more like, since a lot of what I do isn't just songs. I mean Ronnie always writes with these super-catchy hooks that stay with you, and my music has so much more of that than the other people I've heard so far. Granted mine is also always more simplistic and less ambitious, which I also probably owe to JE.

I am grateful for joy electric because it boosts my indie cred when i tell people about his works.

Without Joy Electric, I might have never made songs or paid attention to melodies. My life could have been a little darker. Possibly the reason why I never went all digital synthesizer crazy (why I own no samplers). A perfect example of man and machine. Something I aspire to.
Simplicity, emotion, and maybe a drum machine. Possibly the reason I even make music. For better or worse.

Ronnie owns the test copy of my first album. Having the opportunity to perform in the same place as him was the first time in my life that I felt like I was doing something right with my music.

Pretentious, but true.

Unfortunatley Ronnie has a lot of my demos.

Anyway. I don't know who I'd be without JE considering I have been listening to JE for more than half my life span. So we can go ahead and assume I owe everyting to Ronnie Martin and he has taken a good amount of my money.
